Top Tips for Moving over Xmas
‘Tis the season to celebrate your new home! Christmas is almost upon us and, while most people are out buying gifts and enjoying the festive fun, for those with a moving date planned during the holiday period, it can all get a bit too much, but we’ve got some top tips for a very merry move.
To help get you home for Christmas, we’ve pulled together our five top tips to ensure your move goes as smoothly as possible:
1. Be prepared
When moving in December, remember to be mindful of the fact that most companies will finish for Christmas in the third week of the month. So, be sure to book any storage or removal vans in advance of your moving date, as you don’t want to be left out in the cold.
2. Let there be light
With the cold weather and shorter days, plan to start your day early in order to have the majority of your belongings moved before darkness draws in. Although the British weather is not easy to predict, it’s more than likely to be very cold and damp during the winter months! Having someone at each end, where you’re moving from and where you’re moving to, will ensure each box is sealed, secured and not left outside on the ground.
3. Return to sender
The festive season is a busy time for the postman, with all the Christmas cards and presents being sent and delivered. Don’t miss out on your season’s greetings by ensuring you update your friends and family of your new address ahead of time…and Santa Claus, of course!
You should also update your details with your bank, doctors, credit card companies and any subscriptions that you have. Arranging to have your post redirected with the Royal Mail will also ensure you don’t miss any important news.
4. Hit the shops
When organising everything for the big move, it can be easy to forget about Christmas completely. Buy and pack your decorations and gifts ahead of the move so they can arrive safely at your new home when you do. Plus, arranging to have your food shop delivered to your new home on the day you move will ensure you won’t go hungry on Christmas Day.
5. Time to celebrate
In all the chaos of numerous boxes everywhere, furniture in all the wrong positions and everything else that comes with moving house… Don’t forget to take time out and celebrate not just the festive season, but also your new home!
Have a Happy Christmas everyone!
